Coming off a five game road trip, the No. 39 Nebraska Cornhuskers are set to open up their last season of Big 12 Conference play at home with a match against No. 11 Baylor on Saturday, April 2 at the Vine Street Courts. The match will begin at 3 p.m.
Nebraska went 3-2 on the road last week and has a 14-6 mark on the season. Baylor enters Lincoln coming off a 4-3 victory over Texas Tech in its Big 12 opener. Baylor has won 10 of their last 11 and has a 12-3 record on the year.
The 2011 Big 12 conference schedule play will be the last go around in Big 12 play for the Huskers. Nebraska is set to join the Big Ten next season. Last season, NU finished sixth in the conference with a 1-5 record.
History with Baylor
Last season the Huskers traveled to Waco, Texas, to take on the No. 9 Baylor Bears. The Huskers lost a tough match, 4-3. The Huskers split the singles matches with the Bears, but were unable to win the doubles point. Baylor is 21-0 in the Big 12 era against NU.
Scouting the Baylor Bears
The Bears have a record of 12-3 on the year and are 1-0 in Big 12 play. They are ranked No. 11 nationally. They have four players nationally ranked in No. 18 John Peers, No. 81 Dennis Lengsfeld, No. 83 Roberto Maytin and No. 88 Kike Grangeiro. Peers is 12-3 on the year and plays at the No. 1 spot in the Bears line-up where he is 11-3. The Bears also have two doubles teams ranked in No. 7 Maytin and Peers and No. 83 Sergio Ramirez and Jordan Rux. Baylor has played 10 ranked opponents on the year thus far and is 7-3. Their three losses have come to No. 9 Florida, No. 6 UCLA and No. 1 Virginia. The Bears are led by Matt Knoll, who is in his 15th year at Baylor.
Huskers Jump Two Spots
In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings released on March 29, the Huskers jumped two spots up to No. 39. Nebraska is one of six Big 12 teams that are ranked in the ITA top 50. The other five include: No. 5 Texas A&M, No. 7 Texas, No. 11 Baylor and No. 27 Texas Tech.
NU’s Christopher Aumueller is ranked No. 69 in singles play. Aumueller has a record of 11-6 this spring. He is 6-5 at the No. 1 spot and 5-1 at the No. 2 spot. The duo of Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim is ranked No. 41 in doubles play. They have a record of 14-4.

Last Week: Huskers Go 3-2 on Road Trip
The Huskers finished their spring break road trip with a record of 3-2. The Huskers had wins over William Carey (7-0), No. 45 New Mexico (5-2), and No. 51 Fresno State (7-0). The Huskers two losses came to SEC foes as No. 35 LSU defeated NU, 4-3 and No. 31 Mississippi State knocked off the Huskers, 7-0.
Against William Carey, the Huskers won the double point sweeping all three doubles matches. They followed that up by winning all six singles matches as well, with Calin Paar leading the way at the No. 1 spot for NU. Paar defeated Jody Claassen, 1-6, 7-5, 10-6.
The Huskers travel to Baton Rouge, La., to take on the Tigers. LSU got the better of NU, defeating the Huskers, 4-3. The Huskers split the singles matches, and the match was decided by doubles play. The Huskers lost the doubles point that ended up costing them the match as they were swept in all three matches.
After losing a tough match to LSU, the Huskers traveled to Starkville, Miss., to take on the No. 31 Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs downed the Huskers, 7-0, as the Huskers were unable to win a single match in both singles and doubles play.
The Huskers battled back and went on to win their final two matches over No. 45 New Mexico and No. 51 Fresno State. The Huskers were victorious over New Mexico, 5-2. The Huskers lost the double point, but came back to win five of six singles matches to win the match. Leading the way for the Huskers in singles play was Christopher Aumueller, who played at the top spot in the Huskers line-up. Aumueller defeated Jadon Phillips, 6-3, 6-4. Paar played at the No. 2 spot, and he defeated Den Dunabr, 6-4, 6-2.
The Huskers defeated Fresno State, 7-0. NU began the match winning the doubles point and kept the momentum going winning all six singles points. Paar was at the No. 1 spot in the Huskers’ line-up while Aumueller was at the No. 2 spot. Paar defeated Rikus de Villiers, 7-6, 6-2. Aumueller defeated Remi Boutillier, 6-4, 6-4.
