Nebraska Returns to Lincoln for Two Matches

Coming off their second consecutive Big Ten win, the No. 68 Nebraska Cornhuskers men’s tennis team is set to return home for a pair of matches against conference foes this weekend at the NU Varsity Courts, weather permitting. The Huskers enter the weekend with a record of 9-9 on the year and are 2-3 in conference play.

No. 68 Nebraska (9-9, 2-3 Big Ten) vs. No. 72 Purdue (7-9, 1-3 Big Ten)

No. 68 Nebraska (9-9, 2-3 Big Ten) vs. No. 33 Indiana (14-7, 2-3 Big Ten)
Match Date: Sunday, April 8, 2012
Location: Lincoln, Neb.
Venue: NU Varsity Courts or Nebraska Tennis Center
Start time: Noon

First up for the Huskers will be the No. 72 Purdue Boilermakers. The Huskers will take on Purdue on Friday, April 6 at 3 p.m. The Boilermakers enter Friday’s match with a 7-9 record on the season. They are 1-3 in Big Ten play.

In the second match of the weekend, the Huskers will square off against No. 33 Indiana. The match is set to take place on Sunday, April 8 and will begin at noon. The Hoosiers enter the weekend with a 14-7 record and are 2-3 in Big Ten action.

Wednesday at Iowa
The Huskers claimed their second Big Ten victory on Wednesday afternoon as they defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes, 6-1. The Huskers started out winning the doubles point and went on to win five of the six singles point as they swept singles play in the top-half of their lineup.

Lindheim Moves up on All-Time Wins List
With his win on Wednesday afternoon, senior Benedikt Lindheim now stands at No. 5 on the Huskers all-time wins list with 59 victories surpassing Hendrik Stahmer. Next on the list is Lance Mills with 63 wins.

Huskers Move Up in Latest Rankings
In the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rankings released on April 3, the Huskers gained two spots moving up to No. 68 in the country.

Scouting the Boilermakers
The Purdue Boilermakers are ranked No. 72 in the country with a 7-9 record. In Big Ten play, they are 1-3 with their lone victory coming over Penn State on March 25. Playing at the No. 1 spot in the Purdue’s lineup will most likely be sophomore Szymon Tatarczyk. The Boilermakers are coached by Pawel Gajdzik, who is in his third year.

Scouting the Hoosiers
Indiana is ranked No.33 in the country with a 14-7 record on the season while going 2-3 in Big Ten Conference play. The Hoosiers are 5-5 against ranked teams and are 2-3 away from Bloomington, Ind. Playing at the No. 1 spot for IU will be Isade Juneau, who is 12-6 on the year. At the No. 2 spot for the Hoosiers will be Jeremy Langer who is 13-5 on the year. Those two also form IU’s No. 1 doubles team as they are ranked No. 66 in the country with a 13-6 record. Indiana is coached by Randy Bloemendaal. This is his fifth year.
