LINCOLN – With Sunday’s match tied, 3-3, the final point came down to singles action on court No. 1 where Indiana’s Isade Juneau defeated Nebraska’s Christopher Aumueller after dropping the first set but fighting back to win, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, and clinching the 4-3 victory for the Hoosiers.

With the loss, the No. 68 Huskers falls to 10-10 on the year and are now 3-4 in Big Ten Conference play. No. 33 Indiana improves to 16-7 and is now 4-3 in Big Ten action.

The Huskers had a chance to win the doubles point, but were unable to win on court No. 1 when IU’s team of Jeremy Langer and Isade Juneau defeated NU’s duo of Amueller and Benedikt Lindheim, 9-8 (7-1). The Huskers were victorious on court No. 2 when their squad of Robert Schulze and Andre Stenger downed the Hoosiers’ Josh MacTaggart and Alastair Barnes, 9-8 (7-4).

After the match, Nebraska head coach Kerry McDermott said that losing the doubles point cost the Huskers the match today.

“It was a tough, tough match today,” McDermott said. “The doubles cost us today because we were up in the break on court one and they got the break right back. I thought our guys didn’t execute and that cost us today.”

The Huskers picked up points on courts two and three in singles play when Lindheim downed IU’s MacTaggart, 6-4, 6-4, and Schulze was victorious over Indiana’s Langer, 6-2, 6-1.

On court No. 4, Indiana was victorious when Vogl downed NU’s Stenger in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3. IU also picked up a point on court No. 5 when Will Kendall was victorious over NU’s Stefan Gollner, 6-0, 6-1.

Nebraska’s Tom Blackwell was victorious on court No. 6 when he defeated IU’s Dimitrije Tasic, 6-4, 6-3.

Even thought the Huskers came up short of the victory, McDermott thought the Huskers showed a lot of fight.

“I thought our guys fought well. It was a good match for us,” McDermott said. “It could have gone either way. I think were getting better at competing. Today’s match, just confidence wise, would have been a big win for the guys. It would havebeen a good confidence booster. We’re going to move on and get ready for next week. We’re starting to improve but still have a little ways to go.”

The Huskers will be back in action on Saturday, April 14 when they travel to Ann Arbor,Mich., to take on the Michigan Wolverines. First serve is set for noon.
