Huskers Sign Two Commits

LINCOLN – Nebraska men’s tennis coach Kerry McDermott announced the signing of Bradford Zitsch and Marc Herrmann on Wednesday. Both players will join the Huskers in August 2012.
Zitsch will graduate from Rock Bridge Senior High in Columbia, Mo., and is currently ranked fifth in the Missouri Valley five-state area. Zitsch is ranked 143rd nationally. In 2011, he was the Missouri class 2 state singles runner-up.
“I feel that he will fit in nicely in our program,” McDermott said. “He is determined to work hard and make those around him better and that is what team players do. He already has very good doubles skills and probably has more success in that area but has been steadily improving in singles. I feel college will bring out the best of him over time.”
Herrmann is one of the top-rated recruits to come out of Germany as he ranks in the juniors top-10. In Germany he is currently ranked 172nd nationally.
“We are excited to have Marc join our program. He is a top notch guy on and off thecourt,” McDermott said. “We are looking for his leadership as a freshman to help our program continue to grow and do good things. Marc would like to play professionally someday, and we as coaches are looking for guys like him who want to continue tennis past their college degree. He will be a guy that has to step in and follow the footsteps of seniors, Christopher Aumueller and Benedikt Lindheim, from this year’s team.
Helping recruit Herrmann to Nebraska was associate head coach, Joerg Barthel, who was excited to land Marc.
"Nebraska is fortunate to have such an elite athlete and top tennis player commit to our school and rising program,” Barthel said. “We have had some good success in the past years and Marc will be a key element to continue to build on our goal of being a constant top-35 program. He will make an immediate impact and be one of college’s top players in the years to come. I am extremely happy that we are able to attract a player of his caliber."
