Univ. of Texas at Austin - Facilities
Considered one of the finest collegiate tennis facilities in the nation, the Penick-Allison Tennis Center features 12 courts with lighting for night play and more than 1,800 stadium seats. The facility houses both the men's and women's varsity teams and includes four fully-equipped locker rooms, offices for the Longhorns Tennis coaching staffs, a training room and a room used for video analysis of tennis players. Penick-Allison, located on the south end of campus next to Waterloo Park, was selected as the "Outstanding Tennis Facility in the Nation" by the United States Tennis Association and has been the site of many prominent championship tournaments. The facility is named for Dr. D.A. Penick, who guided Texas to every Southwest Conference title from 1908-57 and was the president of the Texas Tennis Association for more than 50 years, and Wilmer Allison, Dr. Penick's leading prodigy. Allison won the 1927 NCAA and SWC individual titles before enjoying a successful amateur career that included four national titles at Forest Hills, a pair of Wimbledon doubles crowns and a spot on the United States Davis Cup Team from 1928-37.
