MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin women’s tennis team could not get past No. 53 Indiana in the opening round of the 2012 Women’s Big Ten Tennis Tournament Thursday, falling to the Hoosiers, 4-0, at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio.

The Badgers finish the season 12-12 overall and 3-9 in the Big Ten.

Despite taking the doubles point from the Hoosiers in the team’s regular season meeting, the Badgers were unable to get past Indiana’s doubles teams this time around. Indiana clinched the opening point with wins at courts one and three.

On court three, senior Angela Chupa and freshman Sarah Loebel were held to just one game, as they lost 8-1 to Shannon Murdy and Evgeniya Vertesheva.

In a tight match at the No. 1 slot, Indiana came out on top to take the first point of the match. UW senior Alaina Trgovich and sophomore Nicky Stracar were defeated, 8-6, by Leslie Hureau and Sophie Garre.

Moving into singles play, the Badgers were unable to swing the momentum in their favor, losing the first three matches.

After knocking off Hureau in the regular season, Trgovich was shutout by the 71st-ranked Hoosier, 6-0, 6-0, at the top spot.

Despite taking the first three games from Aleica Kauss at the No. 5 position, senior Aleksandra Markovic could not keep up the pace, losing, 6-4, 6-2.

Wisconsin’s season came to an end at court three as Indiana clinched the match with a straight-set victory. Representing the Badgers’ last hope, Loebel’s second set comeback fell short as she fell to Klyczek, 6-1, 7-5.
