Pozzan Earns All-Conference USA Singles Honors
Thursday, 05/10/2012

HOUSTON – University of Houston women’s tennis senior Giorgia Pozzan was named to the 2012 All-Conference USA Singles Second Team, the league office announced Friday.

Pozzan becomes the 16th Cougar to earn All C-USA honors and the 27th all-league selection overall since 1997. She is also the first Houston netter to garner First- or Second-Team honors since Leila Salek in 2008.

For the second-straight season, Pozzan led the Cougars in dual singles play with a 16-6 record, including a 13-5 mark at the top position. She reeled off eight-straight victories from Jan. 28 to March 12 and claimed five wins in the final six matches of the season, including a straight-sets victory over Southern Miss’ Alexus Coats in the opening round of the C-USA Championship.

The Lacchiarella, Italy, native posted a dual singles record of 33-12 and an overall singles mark of 50-17 in her two seasons in the Scarlet and White, ranking third all-time with a 74.6 career winning percentage.

Pozzan also shined in doubles play, notching a 14-7 record this spring at the top position with partners Celia Fraser and Bryony Hunter for an overall career record of 48-21. In just two seasons, Pozzan chalked up nearly 100 combinedsingles and doubles victories (98-38).

In addition to earning All-C-USA singles honors, Pozzan was also a two-time C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection for academic excellence.
