Oregon Handles Air Force, 5-2

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Oregon men's tennis team rebounded from a two-match road losing streak by defeating Air Force 5-2 on Friday afternoon. The Ducks improved to 7-6 on the year while the Academy fell to 1-9 in 2009.

The Ducks took an early 1-0 lead by sweeping the three doubles matches rather handily, led by Marcos Verdasco and Alexander Cornelissen winning the No. 1 match 8-4. Ric Mortera and Duncan MacDonald-Korth combined at No. 2 doubles for an 8-5 win and freshmen Ayrton Wibowo and Sho Higuchi paired at No. 3 for an 8-5 victory.

After taking the doubles point Cornelissen put the Ducks up two with a dominating 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles but the Falcons tied it up with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles. Jose' Izquierdo snapped the tie with a come-from-behind 3-6, 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles. The Ducks put it away with MacDonald-Korth's 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and Higuchi tacked on another point with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles.

The Ducks will stay in Colorado when they play a neutral site match against Nebraska in Denver tomorrow at 6 p.m. Oregon will battle host Denver on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
