Sunday, 04/21/2013

EUGENE, Ore.— The No. 43 University of Oregon Ducks closed out the regular season Saturday afternoon with a close 4-3 loss to the No 33 Washington Huskies at UO Student Tennis Center's outdoor courts. The Ducks end the regular season with a 16-7 overall record and a 2-5 record in conference play, while the Huskies move to 16-10 overall and 1-4 in Pac-12 play.

“It was a very hard fought battle that came down to a third set,” said head coach Nils Schyllander. “Unfortunately, we did not prevail. No doubt this one stings, but we have a short turnaround so we need to refocus and get ready for the Pac-12s in Ojai.”

Playing outdoors for the first time this season, Oregon was still able to regain its home court advantage as it took the doubles point for the 18th time this season. On Court 1, No. 65 Robin Cambier and Jeff Mullen took down Kyle McMorrow and Martin Bots 8-4. Daniel Sardu and Aaron Clissold fell to Jeff Hawke and Max Manthou 8-1 on Court 2, but Alex Rovello and Daan Maasland topped Emmett Egger and Hudson Barnhardt 8-6 to take the doubles point.

In singles, Cambier dropped a hard-fought match to No. 18 Kyle McMorrow 7-6(2), 6-3 on Court 1, while his doubles partner Mullen fell 6-4, 6-3 on Court 2 against Bots. Maasland brought the Ducks another point as he defeated Egger 7-5, 6-4, while Sardu took down Viktor Farkas 6-1, 6-2 on Court 5. Clissold fell 6-4, 6-5 in another tight match against Nicholar Kamisar on Court 6. The match came down to Court 4, where Rovello and Manthou battled for it all. The match went to three sets, and Rovello fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

The Ducks next take the courts at the Pac-12 Championships in Ojai, Calif. on Thurs.-Sun., April 25-28.
