ATLANTIC 10 RELEASE | COMPLETE RESULTS
The top-seeded Spiders (17-5) rolled past second-seeded Temple 4-0 Sunday to capture their sixth Atlantic 10 title. The win clinched a spot in next month's NCAA Women's Tennis Championship.
Richmond cruised in doubles point, with No. 1 Erin Clark/Ashlee Vosters defeating Elyse Steiner/Lucie Pazderova, 8-5. Duran teamed up with sophomore Isabel Arana for a dominating performance over Theresa Stangl/Josephine Bergman, 8-1.
"We focused on getting the doubles point and winning that was huge for our confidence," said head coach Mark Wesselink. "I am glad we played our best tennis today because Temple is a very good team."
The Spiders swept in singles action, with wins at the No. 1, 2 and 4 spot. Duran started the surge with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Steiner. Junior Erin Clark followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Pazderova. Freshman Helen Cunningham concluded the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Anastasia Rukavyshnykova.
"The team has played well all year and the experience of senior captains Pamela Duran, Ashlee Vosters and Xenia Schneider really helped us in this tournament," said Wesselink.
The title marks the fifth A-10 crown in six seasons, and sixth conference championship overall. Richmond received the automatic berth to next month's NCAA Women's Tennis Championships.
