Season Ends For UW’s Top Duo At NCAAsNedunchezhiyan concludes UW career with fourth-most wins in school history.

PALO ALTO, Calif. – A great season for the Husky men’s tennis program officially reached its end this afternoon, as UW’s top doubles duo of senior Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and sophomore Kyle McMorrow fell short in the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championships at Stanford’s Taube Tennis Center.

Both All-Pac-10 selections, McMorrow and Nedunchezhiyan had each compiled 28 doubles wins this season, all but one apiece playing together. But they had a tough task on hand facing 14th-ranked Kevin King and Juan Spir of Georgia Tech in the first round.

NCAAs are the only time when a full best of three set match is played for doubles, rather than the eight game pro set. Today that worked against the Huskies, as they took the first set, 6-4, and stayed on serve throughout the second set. McMorrow and Nedunchezhiyan were a game away from victory, up 5-4 in the second set, and again at 6-5 up, but the Yellow Jackets held their serve each time and forced a tiebreak. King and Spir seized the tiebreak, 7-2, and then carried the momentum to an early service break in the third set, eventually closing out the match, 6-1.

Nedunchezhiyan concludes his Husky career as the school’s all-time doubles wins leader with 86, and he ranks fourth on the combined singles and doubles wins list with 169.
