McMorrow Drops Opener At NCAAs
Wednesday, 05/23/2012

ATHENS, Ga. – An excellent junior season ended a bit too early today for Kyle McMorrow’s liking, as he was upended in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Singles Championships at Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex. McMorrow had to face one of five members of the host Bulldogs that qualified for the 64-player field, dropping his match with 32nd-ranked Sadio Doumbia.

Playing on his home courts, Doumbia took control of things early and took the first set, 6-2. McMorrow, ranked 23rd, was unable to fully turn things around in the second set, with Doumbia closing it out, 6-4.

The year ends for McMorrow and the Huskies as a whole. He earned All-Pac-12 First Team honors for the second year in a row, posting a 22-12 overall singles record, with a number of ranked wins, including five wins over players in the NCAA tourney. He was ranked a career-high No. 9 during the season, becoming the fourth Husky ever ranked in the top-10.

This was the second straight NCAA tourney appearance for McMorrow. He fell in the first round in 2011.
