No. 19 Washington Downs Oregon, 5-2
Saturday, 02/23/2013

SEATTLE -- No. 19 Washington earned a hard-fought victory over No. 73 Oregon, 4-2. The Ducks won the doubles point and battled in singles, but the Dawgs finished strong to close them out. Washington won four of five completed singles matches, including a pair of three setters to earn the victory.

The Dawgs began by dropping the doubles point as Oregon easily won at the No. 3 spot, meaning Washington would need to win the other two matches to earn the point. Both matches were extremely close with Marton Bots and Max Manthou evening things up after winning 8-6 at No. 2. At No. 1, Emmett Egger and Kyle McMorrow appeared on the verge of a late break, but eventually fell, 8-6.

The Dawgs fought back in singles with Jeff Hawke dominating play at No. 6. Hawke defeated Brent Chin 6-1, 6-0 to even the team score at 1-1.

From there, every match was close, including Bots' match with Oregon's Robin Cambier. Bots began by losing the first set 6-0, but the junior dug deep and rallied, winning the next two sets 6-3, 6-4. His result swayed the momentum in Washington's favor and it would add to the lead when McMorrow won at No. 1 singles. McMorrow also needed three sets, but knocked off Jeff Mullen, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.

After Alex Rovello of Oregon brought the Ducks closer with a win over Emmett Egger at No. 4, Viktor Farkas closed things out for the Dawgs. Farkas earned a straight-set victory over Lova Randriamampandry, 7-6, 6-3.

Although the match was clinched, Manthou finished out at No. 3, defeating Daan Maasland, 6-7, 6-2, 10-4.

The win moves Washington to 9-4 on the dual season with another win over a ranked opponent. The Dawgs will close out their weekend and long stretch of home matches on Sunday against UNLV. The match is set for noon back at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
