No. 66 Minnesota Upsets No. 14 Washington, 6-1
Monday, 03/04/2013

MINNEAPOLIS - No. 14 Washington dropped its second-straight match on the road, falling on Sunday to No. 66 Minnesota, 6-1. The Dawgs struggled playing on the home courts of the Golden Gophers and dropped to 9-5 on the season.

The Dawgs dropped the doubles point, despite winning the first match at No. 3. Marton Bots and Jeff Hawke teamed to defeat the Minnesota squad, 8-3. However, that would not hold up as the Gophers won the other two doubles matches to earn the point.

In singles, Minnesota dominated play, winning four-straight matches in straight sets. Jack Hamburg beat Viktor Farkas, 6-2, 6-2, followed by Mathieu Froment defeating Max Manthou, 6-3, 6-2.

The other straight-set victors were Ruben Weber, who beat Hawke, 6-4, 6-4 and Juan Pablo Ramirez who beat Emmett Egger, 7-5, 6-2.

Bots got his match to a third set, but fell to No. 94 Leandro Toledo. The Gopher No. 2 player won 7-6, 5-7, 10-7.

Finally, Kyle McMorrow kept the Dawgs from being swept by winning at the No. 1 spot. McMorrow earned another ranked win, defeating No. 48 Rok Bonin, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

Washington will be back on the road next weekend when they travel to Fresno to take on Hawai'i and Fresno State. The Dawgs take on the Rainbow Warriors on Sunday, March 10, followed by the Bulldogs on Monday, March 11.
