Sunday, 06/16/2013

AUBURN – Auburn women’s tennis capped an outstanding 2013 season with a final Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) ranking of 25th overall.

“As I’ve had time to reflect on our season, I’m even more proud of the girls and all we accomplished,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m especially proud of Pleun and everything she did as a freshman. I’m already looking forward to next season as we build upon this year’s successes.”

The final ITA ranking of 25th is the highest final ranking for Auburn since finishing the 1996 season in 21st. The Tigers are also ranked second in the ITA’s Southern region.

Freshman Pleun Burgmans, the Southern region Rookie of the Year, finished the season as the No. 25 player in the country and top-ranked individual in the region. She is also part of the second-ranked doubles team with Plamena Kurteva.

Additionally, Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfeifler wrapped 2013 as the No. 40 doubles tandem in the nation.  Both Michala Kucharova (15th) and Emily Flickinger (19th) were also ranked in the region.
