NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -

The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (7-8, 3-3 BWC) defeated Pacific, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in a Big West Conference tennis match. The Matadors rallied to take four singles matches, capped off by Nina Jaworowski's4-6, 6-0 and 6-3 vicotry over Jolanta Twarowska at the No. 2 position.

After losing the doubles point, Brooke Doane won the first singles match to finish, taking a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Svenja Arens at the third position. Nigora Sirojiddinova then won her No. 5 match, 6-2 and 6-0, over Clara Schmacher. Pacific would win at the sixth position, with Olga Gumenyk defeating Ashley Macias, 6-0 and 6-2.

Whitney Paluch would give CSUN a 3-2 lead with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Kateryna Nezhura at the fourth position. At the top spot, Evgeniya Vertesheva fell in three sets, 3-6, 6-0 and 6-1, to Jenifer Widjaja to set up Jaworowski's dramatic finish.

In doubles, Vertesheva and Doane rebounded with an 8-4 victory over Widjaja and Gumenyuk at the No. 1 spot. However, Twarowska and Fisher won at two, 8-0, over Jaworowski and Sirojiddinova and Arens and Nezhura defeated Paluch and Kukla at three, 8-4, to take the doubles point.

Northridge returns to action on Mar. 20, hosting Columbia. First serve is slate for 2 p.m. at the Matador Tennis Complex.
