BEREN TENNIS CENTER
Harvard's Newly Redesigned and Expanded Outdoor Facility

The Beren Tennis Center, Harvard University’s outdoor tennis facility, is named after Robert M. Beren ‘47 MBA ‘50 and was completely renovated and reopened in April of 2000. The state-of-the-art center boasts 18 courts–six of which feature stadium seating–a two-tiered pavilion with locker rooms, a media center, offices, court-viewing areas, and accomodates nearly 500 spectators. Additional ground areas are designated for temporary stands to accomodate expanded seating.

The original, eight-court Beren Tennis Center was dedicated on April 23, 1983 as a gift of Beren and his son Adam ’83, an All-American and two-year captain. It was the intention of the Beren family in making the gift that the center should benefit "not only Harvard teams but tennis players in the Harvard community as a worthwhile and relaxing adjunct to the pursuit of academic excellence."

Following a complete renovation, the center was rededicated on April 16, 2000, prior to a 6-1 Harvard victory over Ivy League rival Pennsylvania. In stepping forward a second time to benefit Harvard tennis, Robert Beren wanted "to ensure the Harvard community had a facility that was on par with any university in the country."

In addition to the Beren Tennis Center, six indoor courts are located in the Murr Center and eight indoor courts are located at the Palmer Dixon and Gordon Indoor Track and Tennis facilities. The Murr Center, a state-of-the-art complex complete with spectator seating, received a 1999 USTA Facility Award which recognizes high standards in public tennis facilities.

The Murr Center also houses an expansive strength and conditioning room. Combined with additional facilities located in the Gordon Track and Tennis Center, varsity athletes have both the space (over 6,000 square feet) and wide range of equipment
necessary to address their diverse needs.
