Montana State Women’s Tennis Team Sweeps by Griz
Monday, 03/23/2009

The Montana State women’s tennis team swept intra-state and Big Sky rival Montana, 7-0, Sunday morning in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.

MSU (8-8, 3-1) opened the match winning the doubles point.

The Bobcats and Grizzlies split the first two matches, with MSU earning an 8-0 win at No. 3 and UM answering back with an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Montana State captured the point as the duo of Stephanie Jasper and Missy Harris combined to post an 8-5 win over Amanda and Rebecca Bran.

“Doubles was key for us this weekend,” said MSU women’s coach Denise Albrecht. “Anytime you can get the doubles point it immediately puts the pressure on the opponent.”

Jasper and Harris opened singles play with straight set victories at the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively.

Bobcat junior Ali Griffin secured the match for MSU and a 4-0 advantage with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Martyna Nowak.

Montana State completed the sweep as Laura Villegas, McKenzie Hilmer and Andrea De La Torre all posted victories.

“We had a very business-like approach to the match,” Albrecht said. “I thought we played smart and were disciplined. It was a super effort by our student-athletes.”

Montana State will travel to Northern Colorado on April 3.
