LOS ANGELES -- Taylor Marable and Hilary Bartlett, the Princeton doubles pairing that was selected to the NCAA doubles tournament last spring, won their rematch Wednesday against the Mississippi pair that ousted them in the first round of that tournament in May.
The rematch came in a final at the ITA All-America doubles qualifier at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., allowing the Princeton pair to advance to the main doubles draw Thursday. Marable's and Bartlett's first assignment in the 16-team, four-round main draw is a pair of Baylor seniors ranked No. 8 nationally in the preseason by the ITA, Csilla Borsanyi and Lenka Broosova.
All three wins for Marable and Bartlett in the qualifying draw came by 8-6 scores, the last against the Rebels' Karen Nijssen and Kristi Boxx, who were seeded No. 1 in the qualifier and ranked No. 9 nationally on the preseason ITA list. Marable and Bartlett were seeded No. 7 in the qualifying draw and ranked No. 21 on the ITA preseason chart.
Earlier Wednesday, Princeton's pair defeated Lutfiana Budiharto and Stephanie Dalmacio of Wichita State, a day after knocking off a pair of All-America players from Duke in Ellah Nze and Reka Zsilinszka.
