PRINCETON -- Tennis action stretched coast-to-coast Friday between the Princeton men's and women's tennis teams, highlighted by a national top-5 upset on the women's side in California.

At the ITA All-America tournament, Hilary Bartlett and Taylor Marable upset UCLA's Andrea Remynse and Yasmin Schnack, No. 4 on the ITA preseason national doubles chart, in the first round of the main doubles back draw Friday morning by a 9-7 score, allowing the Tiger duo to continue play Saturday afternoon. Next up for the Tiger pair is a duo from Clemson, Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic, who were ranked No. 14 on the ITA's preseason list. Marable and Bartlett were ranked No. 21 and will have up to two more matches at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Princeton's men got underway in Manhattan Friday at the Columbia Invitational, where rookie Matija Pecotic defeated Martin Kosut of St. John's, 6-1, 6-1 in the first round of the "A" singles draw. Pecotic will face Rajeev Deb-Sen of Columbia in the second round Saturday. Fellow freshman Matt Siow had a bye in the "B" singles draw and will face Mark Milbrandt of Penn Saturday.

In doubles play, Pecotic and Ilya Trubov lost to Kevin Kung and Ekin Sezgen of Columbia, 8-4, in the first round of the lone doubles flight. No consolation draws are scheduled.

While Marable and Bartlett are competing in California, some of their teammates will join the men in New York, taking part in the USTA Invitational in Queens beginning Saturday.

In the "A" singles bracket, Princeton's Melissa Saiontz will take on Buffalo's Denise Harijanto, the bracket's No. 2 seed, in the first round of four rounds at 10:30 a.m. In the "B" singles, Melissa Saiontz's sister Rachel Saiontz will be the No. 4 seed and will take on Jordan Jenkins of Liberty at noon. In the "C" singles, Blakely Ashley will face Harvard's Sophie Chang at 10:30 a.m., while in the "D" singles, Sarah Hoffman will take on St. John's' Joanna Zwirbulis at noon.

In doubles play, Hoffman and Melissa Saiontz will compete in the "A" doubles bracket against Lenka Hojckova and Sandhva Nagarai of N.C. State at 9 a.m. In the "B" doubles bracket, Ashley and Rachel Saiontz will face Chelsea Davis and Carling Donovan of Columbia, also at 9 a.m. Each doubles draw is four rounds.
