Broncos Set to Take on Northern Colorado
Thursday, 03/12/2009

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Santa Clara women’s tennis team will face Northern Colorado this Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Degheri Center.  The first serve time for the match has been changed to 3:00 p.m. to accommodate final exams.  This will be the first meeting between Northern Colorado and the Broncos.

The Broncos are 5-5 this season after last week’s sweep over Cal State Bakersfield, 7-0.  The Broncos dominated down the line to earn their fourth consecutive win.  Sophomore Kelly Buckley earned her first singles win of the season, while freshmen Kacie Wagner and Kimmi Cox improved their doubles winning streak to five matches.

It’s really been a team effort now; we are mentally stronger than we’ve ever been,” said Bronco head coach Ben Cabell.  Northern Colorado is a solid team and it is not going to be an easy win.  If we continue to play the way that we’ve been playing then we can do well this weekend.”

Scouting Northern Colorado

Northern Colorado is 3-7 this season after recently falling to Northern Arizona, 0-7.  The Bears consist of two freshmen, one sophomore, two juniors, and three seniors.  Last season senior Tabatha Knop received Big Sky first-team all-conference honors after posting a 12-9 overall record and a 6-2 singles record.  The Bears are coached by Brenda Vlasak, who is also the head coach for the men's tennis team at Northern Colorado.
