BEAVERTON - Pacific opened their 2009 season with their second straight victory Sunday as the Boxers beat George Fox 8-1 in Northwest Conference men's action at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center.
The Boxers (2-0, 2-0 NWC) easily swept through the doubles matches and won all but one singles match as they won their second one victory in as many matches.
In the doubles, Micah Leo (Fr., Hillsboro, Ore.) and Spencer Hing (Fr., Phoenix, Ariz.) were 8-5 winners over Stefan Lagielski and Ralf Schultz in the No. 1 flight. Michael Okada (So., Hilo, Hawaii) and Eric Furuya (Fr., Portland, Ore.) took the No. 2 flight over Scott Barnett and Nick Jenness by a 8-2 final and Nhat Nguyen (So., Salem, Ore.) and Patrick Kinghorn (So., Salem, Ore.) scored an 8-3 decision over Garrett Thompson and Ross Budreau at No. 3.
Okada opened the singles with a 6-2, 7-6 decision over Lagielski at No. 1, while Barnett scored George Fox's only win of the day with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Leo at No. 2.
Hing was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Jenness at No. 3, Furuya scored a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Schulz at No. 4, and Nguyen was a 6-0, 6-0 winner over Thompson at No. 5. Kinghorn, meanwhile battled back from down 5-2 in the first set to take a 6-2, 7-5 decision over Budreau at No. 6.
Pacific returns to action next weekend with their first road trip of the season, taking on Whitworth in two matches on Saturday on Whitman on Sunday.
