COLLEGE PARK, MD - The 22nd-ranked Clemson women’s tennis team upped their ACC record to 4-1 on the year with a 5-2 win over No. 73 Maryand in College Park, MD on Sunday. The match was moved inside after rain delayed the match back an hour, and then forced it completely indoors. Clemson (11-6) improved to 30-3 all-time against the Terrapins (6-9, 0-5 ACC), who have lost each of their five conference matches this season.

Clemson dropped the doubles point but bounced back to win five of the six singles matches in closing a tumultuous stretch which has seen the Tigers play just one home match in the last 12 dual match competitions. Clemson will play two in a row in the friendly confines this coming week, as they welcome No. 5 Duke and No. 11 North Carolina for key conference showdowns.

Clemson’s only doubles win came from Klara Vyskocilova and Monika Kochanova, as they improved to a team-best 18-4 together this season. It was Vyskocilova’s 24th doubles win of the season (against just six losses), while Kochanova is now 21-7, good for second on the team.

Vyskocilova and senior Keri Wong continued their torrid pace in ACC play, each improving to 5-0 in their ACC singles matches. Wong earned her 98th career singles victory overall and 30th in ACC play in defeating Ana Belzunce, 6-3, 6-1 on court two. She needs just two singles wins to become the third player in history (Jody Trucks, Josipa Bek) to tally more at least 100 singles and doubles victories.

Vyskocilova won her sixth straight match overall with a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) win against Vroni Van Berlo at flight three to improve to 19-6 this season. and 12-4 in dual match play. It was also her 40th career singles win.

Clemson also received straight-set victories from junior Nelly Ciolkowski, and freshmen Beatrice Gumulya and Romy Kölzer. Ciolkowski defeated Welma Luus, 6-3, 6-3 at flight four and moved to 16-9 on the year. Gumulya is now 4-1 in league play with her 6-3, 6-2 win on court five, while Kölzer is now 13-5 overall in her first season with the Tigers after claiming a 6-1, 6-1 win on court six over Jordan Hansbrough.

Clemson returns to action on Friday against No. 5 Duke at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
