URBANA, Ill. – Georgia’s No. 1-ranked Kate Fuller and Silvia Garcia held off Texas Tech’s No. 16 Samantha Adams and>Kenna Kilgo, 6-4, 7-5, in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championships on Friday at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex/Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Illinois.
In the first set, Texas Tech picked up an early break to take a 3-1 lead, but Fuller and Garcia answered back with a break of their own and tied the frame at 3-3. The two tandems traded serves before Georgia got the needed service break for the 6-4 win.
The two squads battled to 4-4 in the second set, before Fuller and Garcia, the tournament’s No. 1 seed, jumped ahead 6-5 and picked up the 7-5 win to advance to the Elite Eight.
Adams and Kilgo end the season 23-10. The duo is 48-18 over the last two seasons.
