Anderson and Morton Reach NCAA Semifinals
Sunday, 06/16/2013

Urbana, Ill. - UCLA's Robin Anderson and Skylar Morton notched a big upset in the NCAA doubles draw on Saturday, downing the tournament's third-seeded team to earn a spot in Sunday's semifinals at the NCAA Championships at the University of Illinois' Atkins Tennis Center.

Anderson and Morton, unseeded in the 32-team draw, picked up their third win of the tournament on Saturday, downing Patricia Veresova and Mary Weatherholt of Nebraska, 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(3). The two Bruins will now face 5-8 seeded Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane of Alabama in Sunday's semifinals, scheduled for 4:00 p.m. (CST).

The victory served as a bit of revenge for Anderson, who lost to Weatherholt in three sets in singles on Friday in the round of 16.

Due to rain in the Champaign-Urbana area on Saturday, play was moved indoors to the Atkins Tennis Center. The tournament has mostly been played outdoors at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex.

Anderson and Morton are looking for UCLA's first NCAA doubles championship since 2008 when Tracy Lin and Riza Zalameda claimed the title.
