Hogs close regular season at LSU
Friday, 04/17/2009

FAYETTEVILLE – The No. 47 University of Arkansas men’s tennis team travels to Baton Rouge, La. on Saturday to play the No. 31 LSU Tigers (8-10, 3-7) in the last regular season match of the season.

The Razorbacks (10-12, 2-8) will look to close the season on a high note after dropping consecutive matches to Mississippi State and Ole Miss last weekend in Fayetteville.

The Hogs and Tigers saw plenty of each other during tournament play earlier this year. In those matches, Arkansas went 6-5 against LSU foes in singles and 3-1 in doubles play.

The most notable meeting between the two teams went the Tigers’ way as LSU’s Michael Venus and Hog Blake Strode met in the quarterfinals of the 2008 D'Novo/ITA Men's All-American Championships. Venus eliminated Strode from the tournament in three sets, winning, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 and went on to win the championship.

Strode is riding a two match win streak into Saturday’s match, which will likely pit him against Venus once again. With 22 wins this season, 12 in dual play, Strode has the most singles wins for the Hogs. He and doubles partner Chris Nott have also proven solid on the doubles court, going 2-4. Three of their losses came against top 10 opponents as the Razorback duo challenged all three teams but came up short in the end.

Saturday’s match is set for noon at the W.T. "Dub" Robinson Tennis Stadium. For more information and for live coverage of the match, visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
