MURFREESBORO, Tennessee- The University of Northern Iowa women's tennis team got their second spring break win in Tennessee this afternoon. The Panthers defeated Murray State 7-0.
In doubles, Cassandra Dix and Krissy Lankelma got the 8-5 win against Cassidy Cunitz and Ashley Canty of MSU in the No. 1 match. Nina Pfahler and Jessica Kunzelmann defeated Carla Suga and Carolyn Huerth of MSU 8-4 in the No. 2 match. Stefannia Sampaio and Chelsea Moore rounded out doubles play for the Panthers, winning their No. 3 match against Ashley Pierson and Jordana Klein of MSU 8-1.
Jessica Kunzelmann won her No. 3 match against Jordana Klein of MSU 6-1, 2-6, 7-5, so she is currently tied with Carolinna Hannes at the top of the all-time career singles win list with 86 wins. With her next win, Kunzelmann will take the solo spot at the top of the list. In the No. 1 match, Pfahler defeated Cunitz of MSU 6-2, 7-5. Dix got the win against Canty 6-4, 6-2, in the No. 2 spot. Moore got the win in her No. 4 match, defeating Suga of MSU 6-4, 6-1. In the No. 5 match, Lankelma defeated Huerth of MSU 6-3, 3-6 (14-12). Sampaio won her No. 6 match against Pierson of MSU 6-4, 7-5.
"We got a really solid win today," said Head Coach Sachin Kirtane. "We played better then we did yesterday, and we really need to come out strong against Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday."
The Panthers return to the court in Tennessee on Tuesday when they will play Middle Tennessee State at 2:00 p.m.
