Women of Troy Wrap ITA National Indoor Main Draw Action In Semis
Wednesday, 11/20/2013

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- USC women's tennis was represented in both the singles and doubles semifinal rounds today at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The impressive Trojan runs came to a close in the semis, however, as Sabrina Santamaria fell to the top seed in singles, and doubles duo Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis fell in three sets to a strong Georgia Tech pair.

Santamaria, who came into the singles scene in Flushing, N.Y. as the No. 4 seed in the draw although ranked #1 in the nation, had pulled out a solid three-set victory in yesterday's quarterfinals to move into today's semifinals. There, the Trojan junior faced top-seeded Jamie Loeb of North Carolina. Loeb was up to the challenge that top-ranked Santamaria brought to the match, and the Tar Heel grabbed a 6-2, 6-0 win to advance to the singles final.

In doubles, USC had an upset-minded pair in Giuliana Olmos and Zoë Scandalis, who had toppled the top seeds from UCLA in the quarterfinals yesterday. Today, Olmos and Scandalis faced #26 Kurey/Woodard of Georgia Tech. That team had ousted USC's No. 4 seeded Brynn Boren and Zoë Katz two rounds earlier, and the Yellow Jackets remained strong. Olmos and Scandalis forced the issued in taking it to three sets, but Kurey/Woodard beat out the #54 Trojan pair 6-0, 4-6, 6-0 to advance to the title match.

Boren and Katz are actually still going in doubles play, competing in the back draw and having snagged a couple wins there. They'll play in the final round tomorrow against Auburn's Burgmans/Flickinger
