USC's Boren/Katz Bounce Back To Win Back Draw Final

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- USC newcomers Brynn Boren and Zoë Katz proved to be tiebreak gurus out at the ITA National Indoor Championships at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. this weekend. The senior-freshman combo stumbled to the eventual doubles champions from Georgia Tech in the Trojans' opening match of the main draw. But back draw action went well for the Women of Troy, who won back-to-back matches in tiebreakers to claim the doubles back draw title.
The No. 3 seeds in the main draw had a bye in the first round, but was up against a dangerous Kurey/Woodard pair from Georgia Tech in the Round of 16. An 8-3 loss to the Yellow Jackets -- who would go on to upset USC's two-time defending champs Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria in the semis en route to winning it all the next day -- pushed senior Brynn Boren and freshman Zoë Katz into the doubles back draw. There, the Trojan duo got back in winning mode with a win over a pair from Barry. In the next round, Boren/Katz went down to the wire and beat Oklahoma's Lancaster/Ritchie 8-7 (5) to advance to the final. #19 Boren and Katz remained focused at the task at hand in that last match and beat out Auburn's #34 Burgmans/Flickinger 8-7 (4) to wrap up competition in New York this morning.
