No. 9 UWF Finishes Weekend With 8-1 Win Over No. 6 Cameron

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The No. 9 West Florida men’s tennis team (2-3) finished its weekend trip to Arkadelphia with an 8-1 win over No. 6 Cameron (5-5) on Sunday morning.  The Argonauts bounced back with the win after three straight losses early in the 2009 season.

In doubles, the Argonauts pulled off two wins in three matches. In the second spot, Patrick Bateman (sophomore/Apopka, Fla.) and Luis Arboleda (senior/Medellin, Colombia) defeated Cristian Easton and Saman Samii by an 8-4 score. In the first spot, Andrey Pozhidaev (freshman/Sochi, Russia) and Nathan Rosenfeld (freshman/Miami, Fla.) fell 9-7 to Daniel Pazos and Diego Troiano. The third Argonaut duo formed by Kevin Ducros (freshman/Aix-en-Provence, France) and Sean Gunnels (freshman/Mobile, Ala.) defeated Daniel Bonamigo and Carlos Viscarra 9-7 to give West Florida the 2-1 lead after the doubles play.

In singles, the Argonauts were too much for the Aggies, as five of the six singles were won in straight sets. In the first spot, Ducros defeated Pazos 6-4, 6-3. Pozhidaev played in the second singles to defeat Easton also with a 6-4, 6-3 score. Bateman did not have much trouble to beat Samii with a 6-1, 6-1 score. Rosenfeld earned his first victory as an Argonaut by defeating Troiano 6-4, 6-3 in the fourth spot. Gunnels defeated Carlos Viscarra 6-3, 6-2 in the fifth spot. Jose Ycaza was pushed to a third set super tiebreak in the sixth spot and came out victorious with a 6-4, 3-6, 10-8 win over Bonamigo, giving the Argonauts the victory with a final score of 8-1.
