TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - First-year head coach George Husack announced the 2012-13 men’s tennis schedule on Sunday, which will, once again, pin the Crimson Tide up against some of the nation’s best collegiate competition. The fall portion of the schedule features seven tournaments, while the spring slate kicks off with one additional tournament followed by 22 dual matches. “
I'm really excited to welcome the guys back to campus and to get started with a new season,” said Husack. “We've got a very competitive and challenging schedule, and we'll prepare, train and develop our games for a very productive and successful season ahead.”
Alabama will begin its season with a return trip to the Duke Fab Four Invite that will take place in Cary, N.C., on September 14-16. Selected members of the squad will then head to Tulsa, Okla., for the All-American Championships while others take part in the Notre Dame Invite, both occurring the first weekend of October. The Tide is slated to close out the month of October at the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships, which are being held this year at Auburn on October 18-22. The winner of the singles and doubles draws at the regional tournaments will all meet at the National Indoor Championships in Flushing, N.Y. on November 8-11.
Alabama holds its lone home tournament of the season on November 2-4, with the Crimson Tide Fall Championships and will conclude the fall schedule in Athens, Ga., at the Georgia Bulldog Scramble the following weekend.
The Tide picks back up with competition at the end of January when it plays host to the 2013 SEC Indoor Championships, running the 18-21. That will be Alabama’s final tune-up before its first dual matches of the season when it takes on Wake Forest, Penn State and New Mexico all in Winston Salem, N.C. on January 25-27.
Alabama remains on the road to start the month of February, facing Harvard and Cornell on February 1 and 2, respectively, in Flushing, N.Y. The Tide will have an additional seven away matches throughout the season as Alabama travels to Clemson (Feb. 15), Arkansas (March 8), Auburn (March 15), Kentucky (March 29), Vanderbilt (March 31), Tennessee (April 7) and Georgia (April 14).
Alabama’s first home matches of the season will take place on February 6 when the Tide hosts back-to-back matches with Samford and UAB. Alabama is also slated to host Furman (Feb. 23), Southern Miss (Feb. 23), Mississippi (March 1), Mississippi State (March 3), LSU (March 10), Florida (March 22), South Carolina (March 24) and Texas A&M (April 7).
