Alabama Opens Fall Season at Duke Fab Four Invite
Thursday, 09/13/2012

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men’s tennis team will take part in its first tournament of the season when it heads to Cary, N.C., for the 2012 Duke Fab Four Invite. Matches will begin on Friday morning and conclude on Sunday.

“I’m really looking for the guys to compete this weekend,” said Alabama first-year head coach George Husack. “We haven’t competed in anything since I’ve started, so it’s exciting, getting thrown into battle. We have been working really hard at training, and I just want to see how these four guys compete this weekend and how they handle match situations against people that are not their teammates.”

Representing the Crimson Tide this weekend will be senior Jarryd Botha, juniors Daniil Proskura and Carlos Taborga and freshman Becker O’Shaughnessey. In addition to Alabama and host institution, Duke, Elon, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State, Radford, South Carolina, VCU and William & Mary will also be competing.

The tournament is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. CT with the first two rounds of doubles followed by one round singles. In doubles, Botha and O’Shaughnessey, the No. 2 seed in their respective draw, will take on N.C. State’s Dave Thomson and Sean Weber, while Proskura and Taborga, also No. 2 in their draw, will face Louisville’s Sebastian Stiefelmayer and Albert Wagner. In singles, Botha will play Stiefelmayer, Proskura will take on Weber, O’Shaughnessey will face Radford’s Thomas Dehaen and Taborga will face off with Duke’s Daniel McCall.
