Three Lady Vols will represent the school at the Ohio Valley Regionals

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Three Lady Vols will head to the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regionals in West Lafayette, Ind. at the Basham Courts at the Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University.

Representing the Lady Vols at the event are senior Kata Szekely, junior Brynn Boren and freshman Tiffany Tavares.

Boren and Szekely have been ranked the No. 1 doubles seed in the tournament while Boren is the No. 1 singles seed and Szekely is the No. 2 singles seed.

Three of the teams competing in the tournament this weekend were ranked in the 2012 final ITA Collegiate Tennis rankings:

Heading into this tournament, University of Tennessee holds the top-spot in both the main draw singles and doubles.

Brynn Boren, who holds a No. 18 preseason ranking, is the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. Kata Szekely, No. 28 in the country, is the No. 2 overall seed. As a doubles pair Boren and Szekely are ranked 34th in the country and have earned the top-seed in the regional.


The Lady Vols are the reigning doubles champions at the regional and hope to keep that streak going in 2012. In fact, Tennessee has won the last two doubles titles at the regional.

2010 - All UT final as Brynn Boren and Maria Sorbello defeated Rosalia Alda and Millie Nichols 8-2
2011 - All-Americans Natalie Pluskota and Kata Szekely defeated Tiffany Welcher and Alyssa Hibbard of Memphis with a best-of-three 6-3, 6-2 win.

The winners of each main draw will advance to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships (Nov. 8-11) in New York.


Freshman Tiffany Tavares rounds out the pack of Vols at the event, earning a spot in the main draw. Tavares, who has taken part in two tournaments this fall season, has earned two victories. Tavares is seeded 45th in the tournament and will take on Purdue's Tess Bernard-Feigenbaum in the Round of 64.
