Terriers Drop 4-3 Decision to Appalachian State In Men's Tennis

BOONE, N.C.- The Wofford men’s tennis team made the trek up to Boone, N.C. on Friday afternoon in hopes to win its third straight SoCon match but came up just short as they fell to the home standing Mountaineers 4-3. Wofford now sits at 8-9 overall and 2-2 in SoCon play while the Apps improve to 11-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
The Terriers fell behind 1-0 early on as the Mountaineers swept all three doubles matches. Danny Manlow and Stuart Robertson fell on court No. 1 to the Mountaineer duo of Bobby Lake and Lee Floyd 8-4, while Scott Collins and Tinus Van Wyk were downed by the same score on court No. 3. The Terrier duo of Paul Bartholomy and Alan Donald were defeated   8-2 by Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs on court No.2.
The Terriers would battle back however and make things interesting in singles play. However, Wofford was only able to come out on top in three of the six singles matches. Manlow was pushed to three sets on court No. 2 but prevailed over Jacobs 7-6, 3-6, 6-2. Bartholomy also went the distance and came out on top as he downed Alan Humblet 6-4, 1-6, 7-5. The Third Terrier to win on the day was Tinus Van Wyk as he rolled to a straight set victory over Floyd 6-4, 7-5.
The Terriers are  return to action on Saturday as they play host to The Citadel  The Match will be played as scheduled at the Furman Indoor Tennis Courts at 2 p.m. due to threat of severe thunder storms.
