Xavier Starts A-10 Season 2-0 With 5-2 Win Over Temple
Tuesday, 03/27/2012

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Xavier men's tennis team earned their second straight Atlantic 10 win Saturday night when the Musketeers topped Temple 5-2. With the victory XU improved to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in the A-10.

"I'm really proud of how we competed tonight," said XU head coach Eric Toth. "Our guys bounced back really well after dropping a very tight doubles point by doing a great job early in the singles. For our first weekend of A-10 competition we did everything we wanted to do. There is a lot of tennis though left on our schedule both in conference and out where we will need to keep making progress in a positive way to be where we want to be in a month."

The Owls took the doubles point but the Musketeers were up to the task in singles play.

Jimmy Roebker earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles and fellow sophomore Mesa Mei posted a hard-fought 7-6 (2), 6-2 win at No. 2. Brandon MacDonald and Marc Pretorius earned wins at No.4 and No. 6 respectively and freshman Michael Moe sealed the win with a three-set win at No. 5.

The Musketeers return to action March 21 as they host Northern Kentucky in the first match of a six-match home stand.
