ASU Tennis Teams Fall; Men to AAMU and Women to SSU

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Alabama State tennis teams saw themselves drop two important matches, before gearing up for the last of two Southwestern Athletic Conference Round-ups. The ASU men's team fell 3-4 to intra state rival Alabama A&M for the first time this season and the Lady Hornets fell 7-0 to Savannah State Saturday at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Complex on the campus of ASU.


ASU men's team came out fighting, taking the Bulldogs down to the wire in seven matches in three straight contest. In doubles, Stefan Vojnic and Rodrick Ivory defeated A&M's Law and Brown 8-3.


In singles, Lex Pierre recorded a win for ASU over Alexander 6-4, 6-3; Stefan Vojnic defeated Veliz 6-2, 6-3; and Kenneth Haley captured the win over Law 6-4, 6-4 for the Hornets.

The Lady Hornets in doubles, Mechelle Barton and Nathalie Lorenco dropped their match 8-4, and in singles, the Alabama State women's team fell in all of their matches.


The Lady Hornets will travel to Mobile, Ala. on Tuesday, March 13 to face South Alabama and the ASU men's tennis team will next travel to Baton Rouge, La. Friday, March 30- April 1 for the SWAC West Roundup.
