WHAT'S HAPPENING THIS WEEK

 

  • No. 72 Boise State (3-7) is home for the first time this season after spending the last six weeks on the road. The Broncos welcome No. 44 Penn (5-2), No. 73 Utah (7-3) and Brigham Young (7-5) for five matches Friday and Saturday which includes two neutral site contests.
  • Boise State's first home match of the season will come at 2 p.m. Friday afternoon at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center when the Broncos face the Utah Utes.
  • The Broncos will then face No. 44 Penn in doubles at 7 p.m. Friday night at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center, which is the same time that the women will be facing Mountain West rival Fresno State. The Boise State men will then finish the Penn match Saturday morning at 9 a.m. when the Broncos play the Quakers in singles.
  • The weekend concludes for the men at 6:30 p.m. Saturday against the BYU Cougars at the Boise Racquet and Swim Club on Cole Road in Boise.
  • Both Utah and Brigham Young are Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Mountain Region rivals.

FRIDAY NIGHT CELEBRATION

 

  • On Friday night prior to the start of the doubles matches between Boise State-Penn men's teams and the Fresno State-Boise State women's, the Broncos will take a moment to honor the life of Jerry Boas. Mr. Boas was one of the main minds and financial contributors behind the building of the Boas Indoor Tennis Center. He passed away last summer.

LAST WEEK

 

  • The No. 57 Broncos traveled to the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala., where they went 0-2 and had the third match versus Alabama rained out on Sunday (Feb. 22). They opened against No. 24 South Florida falling 4-0, then lost to No. 35 Auburn 4-1. Brian Foley recorded the lone team point for the Broncos with a straight-set victory 6-4, 6-0 over Auburn's Joseph Van Dooren on court four.

NEXT UP

 

  • Next week the Broncos will travel to the San Diego area to participate in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in La Jolla, as well as play at Mountain West rival No. 54 San Diego State.

ITA NATIOANAL RANKINGS

 

  • Boise State fell in the latest ITA National rankings to No. 72 after sitting at 57 last week.
  • The Broncos opened the season ranked 33rd.

ANOTHER TOUGH SCHEDULE

 

  • As usual Boise State has not shied away from a tough schedule in 2015 which features 28 matches.
  • Of the 28 matches, 16 will be against teams currently ranked in this week's ITA Top-75: No. 20 Northwestern, No. 22 Harvard, No. 24 South Florida, No. 28 Auburn, No. 32 Texas Tech, No. 37 Stanford, No. 43 Oregon, No. 44 Penn, No. 45 New Mexico, No. 53 Pepperdine (twice), No. 54 San Diego State, No. 60 UC Irvine, No. 70 UNLV, No. 71 Cal Poly and No. 73 Utah.
  • Boise State is one of four Mountain West members currently ranked in New Mexico, San Diego State and UNLV, while Nevada and Utah State were ranked earlier this year.
  • The Broncos are currently 1-6 versus teams who were nationally ranked at the time of the match this season.

QUICK LOOK AT BOISE STATE

 

  • The Broncos are currently 3-7 overall entering the weekend.
  • The Broncos went 28-5 overall and finished the 2014 spring duals season ranked 29th.
  • Boise State at home: The Broncos play their first home match versus both No. 73 on Friday (Feb. 27).
  • The Blue and Orange went 14-1 at home last season competing at both the Boas Indoor Tennis Center and the Appleton Outdoor Tennis Center.
  • Boise State finished the 2014 campaign ranked fourth nationally in total attendance, while the women came in at third.
  • So far this season the Broncos are 3-7 on the road. Boise State went 14-4 on the road in 2014.
  • Greg Pattonis in his 19th season as head coach at Boise State where he is 411-157 overall in team duals, his career mark is 762-350 in 35 years.

DEFENDING MW CHAMPIONS

 

  • League Champions: Boise State is the three-time defending Mountain West Tournament champion and is undefeated in the event since joining the league for the 2011-12 season.
  • NCAA Tournament Participant: Boise State advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2014 for the 17th time in school history and the ninth time in the last nine years.

ITA REGIONAL RANKINGS

 

  • Boise State has four players regionally ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). Regional rankings come out once in the spring semester just before the season starts, they are based on fall results.
  • Singles: SeniorGarrett Pattonbegins the 2015 dual season ranked ninth in the ITA Mountain Region, while juniorThomas Tenreirois 10th.
