BOISE, Idaho – Boise State men’s tennis fell 4-1 to rival Fresno State on Friday night at the Appleton Tennis Center. Boise State got off to a good start, winning the doubles point 2-0 with wins from the No. 1 duo of Kyle Butters and Jack Heslin, and the No. 3 team of Mattia Bedolo and Wyatt DeMulling. Fresno State then rallied to claim the match with four straight singles victories.

The Broncos fall to 8-13 overall and 1-3 in Mountain West play, while Fresno State – coached by Bronco alumnus Luke Shields – improved to 14-10 overall and 3-0 in league.

Boise State took the doubles point with wins on courts three and one. Bedolo and DeMulling claimed the first victory 6-3 at No. 3 doubles over Youssef Hassan and Zdenek Derkas.

The Broncos No. 1 tandem of Jack Heslin and Butters clinched the doubles point winning 6-4 on court one over Cem Erturk and Mantas Bugailiskis.

That gave the Broncos the early advantage heading into the singles matches. The dominant performance in the doubles would prove to be the lone highlight of the night for the Broncos.

Fresno State rallied in singles taking the first four matches completed to claim the team victory with wins on courts four, five, one and three, respectively.

Butters at court two and Rylan McDermott on court six were each in the third set of their matches when it came to a close.
