WHAT’S HAPPENING
- Boise State is off to San Diego, Calif., for two competitions this week beginning with a neutral site match versus No. 69 UC Irvine at 2 p.m. (Mountain) on Thursday, March 3, at the San Diego Tennis Club. The weekend will see the Broncos compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship at LaJolla, Beach & Tennis Club Thursday through Sunday.
- Boise State enters the weekend at 7-7 overall and ranked 71st in the latest ITA poll ... the Broncos are coming off a 0-2 record last week at the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Calf., where they fell to No. 14 South Florida 4-0 and No. 48 Auburn 4-2.
PREVIEW FOR THIS WEEK
- This week’s action begins Thursday against UC Irvine who enters the contest 6-4 overall and ranked 69th nationally. The Anteaters are coming off a 7-0 defeat at the hands of UCLA, proceeded by a 7-0 victory over Northern Arizona.
- The 127th Annual Pacific Coast Men’s Doubles Tennis Championship is the second-oldest tennis event in the United States ... it will feature players from over 20 universities from across the country, as well as independent players.
- Boise State doubles teams competing in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship include: Brian Foley/Pedro Platzeck, Danny Moyer/Greg Wischer, Lewis Roskilly/Thomas Tenreiro and Kyle Butters/Toby Mitchell.
COACH PATTON
- Greg Patton is in his 20th season as head coach at Boise State where he is 430-173 overall in team duals, his career mark is 781-366 in 36 years.
- His 781 career wins ranks him first among active coaches ... the Broncos’ win over Southern Utah (Jan. 19) moved him into fourth-place all-time on the NCAA career list at 777.
BOISE STATE 71st NATIONALLY
- The Boise State slipped to No. 71 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) National Rankings.
- The Broncos started the 2016 campaign ranked 59th nationally by the ITA and have been as high as 58th this season.
FOUR-TIME MOUNTAIN WEST CHAMPS
- The Broncos have never lost (11-0) at the Mountain West Tournament since joining the league for the 2011-12 campaign and are the four-time defending champions.
- Overall Boise State has won 16 conference titles, 14 under coach Patton’s leadership
NCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
- Boise State advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2015 for the 18th time in school history and the 10th time in the last 11 years.
