Boise State Opens Fall at Midland, Texas

WHAT’S HAPPENING

Boise State men’s tennis opens the fall season this weekend when the Broncos send sophomore Pedro Platzeck and freshman Harvey Shackleton to the Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational in Midland, Texas. This tournament was formerly know as the Midland Intercollegiate Championships.

Boise State, Auburn, Abilene Christian, Arizona, Denver, Texas, Texas-Arlington (UTA), Wichita State, Utah State, Rice, Tyler Junior College.

SINGLES PREVIEW

Pedro Platzeck: The sophomore from Sao Paulo, Brazil, will open the tournament at 8 a.m. (Mountain) on Friday against Auburn’s Olle Thestrup in the round of 64. The winner of that match will advance to play the No. 2 seed Texas’ Leonardo Telles in the round of 32 later that afternoon. Platzeck joined the Broncos during the winter break last year and went 12-10 in spring duals.

Harvey Shackleton: The Boise State newcomer will open his collegiate career at the RCCI on Friday in the round of 64 versus Texas-Arlington’s Jhonathan Gonzalez at 8 a.m. (Mountain), Gonzalez is a transfer from TCU. If Shackleton wins that match the freshman would advance to the round of 32 against Denver’s Yannick James. Shackleton comes to Boise State from Hertfordshire, England, where he was a standout in junior tennis.

DOUBLES PREVIEW

Platzeck and Shackleton will open their doubles competition on Friday as well. They will face a duo from Auburn in Edward Nguyen and Olle Thestrup, time of match has not been announced yet. The winner of that match advances to meet the fourth-seeded tandem from Texas in Rodrigo Banzer and Leonardo Telles in the round of 32.
