BOISE, Idaho (Sept.19, 2016) - Boise State released today the 2016-17 men’s tennis schedule featuring five fall tournaments, five spring tournaments and 26 spring duals. The Broncos will host one fall tournament the Dar Walters Fall Classic,12 spring duals and this year’s Mountain West Championship.

 

“Our schedule is tennis heaven for us, it is what you want to have with a good balance,” said head coach Greg Patton. “We have good teams and some really great teams on our schedule. We also get to go to some great places like perennial power Northwestern where we will also play Harvard, one of the top Ivy League teams each year. You can’t beat it. It’s like a train trip, when you get on you want to see everything, the waste lands, the mountains, the coast, the rivers and lakes, everything!  That is what we have done with this schedule, we have a little of everything including the crown jewel the Mountain West Championship on our home courts. You can’t ask for anything more!”

 

Boise State has a good mix of competition in the spring featuring nonconference match-ups with traditionally ranked schools like UCLA, Northwestern, Harvard, Pepperdine, Utah, Michigan State, Cal Poly, UC Irvine and UCSB. 

 

Bronco Nation will get its first chance to see the squad in action Oct. 7-9 when Boise State hosts the Dar Walters Fall Classic at the Appleton Tennis Center. This event will feature a singles and doubles tournament (no duals in the fall) with champions crowned in both fields.

 

The spring will be highlighted by appearances in the 2017 National Collegiate Tennis Classic (singles and doubles tournaments) at Palm Springs, Calif., Jan. 13-15 to open the season; the ITA Kick-Off Classic ─ seeded second at the Los Angeles (UCLA) bracket ─ Jan. 28-29; and the prestigious Blue Gray National Tennis Classic at Montgomery, Ala., Feb. 24-25, a competition they won in 2014 and 2015.

 

The home slate includes nonconference duals with Whitman, Denver, Cal Poly, Idaho State, BYU, Utah, Eastern Washington, UC Santa Barbara and Pepperdine. 

 

“I am really excite about our home schedule this year,” Patton said. “We have some really good teams like Pepperdine, Utah, BYU, Cal Poly and UCSB coming to town. Last year we were on the road for a lot of the good matches, but this year they are coming to us.”

 

Boise State will also host MW members New Mexico, Air Force and Utah State, while traveling to face UNLV, Fresno State, San Diego State and Nevada.

 

The regular season concludes with the 2017 Mountain West Championship April 28-30 at the Appleton Tennis Center on the Boise State campus. At stake will a be the league’s automatic berth to the NCAA National Championship Tournament during the month of May
