Boise State Travels to San Francisco

WHAT’S HAPPENING
Four members of the Boise State men’s tennis team Kyle Butters, Jack Heslin, Morgan Stone and Brian Tran will compete in the 2016 Battle in the Bay Classic this weekend at San Francisco. The three day event will take place at the prestigious California Tennis Club. This is the first tournament for this young Broncos squad which is made up of three sophomores and one freshman. Butters is the lone returner joined by three newcomers to the Boise State team.

SINGLES PREVIEW
Kyle Butters: The sophomore from New Zealand is the lone member of the group to have ever played for Boise State going 25-10 in singles last year during his freshman campaign, he closed on a 15-match win streak. He will open the Battle in the Bay against Pacific’s Tadiwa Chinamo at 11:30 a.m. (Mountain). The winner will advance into the round of 32 against Jerry Lopez of TCU Friday afternoon.

Morgan Stone: The native of Marietta, Ga., is a transfer sophomore from Santa Clara University where he played as a freshman in 2015-16. This is his first competition wearing the blue and orange of Boise State. He received a first round bye Friday morning and will open against the winner of the morning’s James Wade of UC Davis versus Mathieu Garcia of Portland match at 3 p.m. that afternoon.

Jack Heslin: The native of Auckland, New Zealand, is a transfer sophomore from the University of Tennessee where he competed as a freshman going 17-17 overall in singles. Heslin will open Friday morning against San Diego’s Guus Koevermans at 1 p.m. The winner will then face San Francisco’s Paul Giraud at 4 p.m.

Brian Tran: The lone freshman of the foursome is from Greystanes, Australia. This is his first competition for Boise State and he will open in the round of 64 Friday versus Iowa’s Kareem Allaf at 12:30 p.m. The winner of the match advances to the round of 32 to face Pacific’s Miguel Diaz at 3:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

DOUBLES PREVIEW
Boise State will have two doubles teams compete in San Francisco. Butters and Heslin will team up for one duo, while Stone and Tran will make up the second. Both open play at 10 a.m. Friday morning in the round of 32.
