2011 Pac-10 Championships: Andrews Reaches Singles Championship Semifinal

The Pac-10 Championships were held in Ojai, CA at Libbey Park on April 28 - May 1. No. 96 ranked junior Nick Andrews qualified for the Singles Championship Semifinal by virtue of his 7-5, 6-1 quarterfinal round victory over Stanford's Denis Lin on Friday April 29. On Saturday, Andrews tried to make it two in a row versus opponents from Stanford, but unfortunately fell to Stanford's No. 9 ranked Bradley Klahn, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 in a hard-fought three-setter.

In the Invitational Doubles draw, Cal senior Zach Gilbert and junior Sky Lovill came through in a tiebreaker against Marton Bots and Matthew Stith of Washington 9-8 (with an 8-5 score in the tiebreaker) to win the title match.

Cal Tennis Coverage at The Berkeley Times
Coverage of Cal tennis can now be found in Berkeley's newest paper, The Berkeley Times. Interestingly, it is not an online publication, but it does a great job covering local events and issues. Go to www.berkeleyx.org to subscribe.

Lair of The Bear
Tennis and the Lair of the Bear are partnering to better serve the needs of the tennis community. This year the Lair Golf and Tennis Camp (September 3-9), formerly known as Sports & Recreation Week, has been redesigned for the more serious, competitive, and accomplished player.  Club Lair (August 28-September 3) continues its focus on the casual player, someone who enjoys recreational tennis in addition to many other activities.

This year's programs have been infused with the philosophies and teaching experiences of current and former Cal coaches and players:  Jan Brogan, legendary women's coach, Peter Wright, current men's coach, Doug King, former Cal singles player and director of tennis at Meadowood Resort, and Steve Stefanki, former Cal player and current junior coach. To register for either of these exciting sessions, and to take advantage of a significant USTA member discount, please visit the Lair's website, or call Lair Reservations at 510.642.0221.
