Bucs dominate singles matches in 5-2 win over SCSU

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis team won five of its six singles matches after losing the doubles point to take a 5-2 victory over South Carolina State University Saturday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.

The Buccaneers improved to 2-0 on the season while SCSU fell to 1-3.

Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic led the way for Charleston Southern, as both won their singles matches and teamed up for the lone doubles win.

Makhova defeated Darla Sekerina 6-3, 6-2 from the first position and Dzakovic took down Fanni Fricska 6-0, 6-1 from the second position. The tandem hooked up and defeated Laura Bosneag and Beate Valdane 8-3 from the third doubles position.

Back in singles action, Andrea Schutte, Brooke Pletcher and Angie Torres all posted singles wins from the third, fourth and sixth positions, respectively.

Schutte dispatched of Maria Craciun 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, while Pletcher defeated Saria Torres 6-4, 6-4 and Torres won over I-Chun Amy Chen 6-1, 6-2.

Andrea Gonzalez was the lone Buc unable to pick up a win in singles action, falling 6-0, 6-3 to Bosneag from the fifth position.

South Carolina State earned the doubles point over CSU, led by Sekerina and Craciun. The duo defeated Torres and Schutte from the first position 8-0, and Torres and Amy Chen defeated Pletcher and Susita Das 8-5 from the second position.
