CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis team had a strong performance against University of North Carolina Charlotte, and the Buccaneers pushed their undefeated streak to 11-0 with a 6-1 win Wednesday afternoon.
CSU (11-0, 4-0 Big South Conference) won the doubles point and cruised through singles action, taking 5-of-6 to earn the victory over the 49ers (4-11, 0-1 Atlantic 10 Conference).
The No. 2 doubles pair of Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic breezed by Gabi Vergara and Anna Ekelund 8-2, and the No. 1 duo of Andrea Schutte and Angie Torres took down Ana Spivakovsky and Alexandra Zinn 9-7 to secure the first point of the day for CSU.
Brooke Pletcher and Susita Das were unable to make it a clean sweep in doubles play, as the tandem fell 8-5 to Andrea Rivera and Kimber Redfern at No. 3 doubles.
Makhova extended her unbeaten streak to 11-straight singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Zinn at No. 1 singles.
Dzakovic defeated Redfern 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 3 slot, and Torres dispatched Iveta Guneva 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) from the sixth spot. Pletcher beat Vergara 6-2, 6-2, and Andrea Gonzalez won her first-collegiate match as she took down Candace Cunningham 7-5, 6-4 from the No. 5 position.
Schutte was the lone Buc to fall in singles play. She lost her first match of the season to Rivera 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 0-1 (7-10).
