CHARLESTON, S.C. – Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic shined as the duo combined for three wins to lead the No. 70-ranked Charleston Southern women’s tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Big South Conference foe Coastal Carolina University Wednesday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.

The tag-team took down Mary Hill and Paty Cortes 8-5 from No. 2 doubles to help the Bucs claim the doubles point, and then they both dominated their singles matches to make sure the home team would claim the crucial league victory.

Makhova cruised past Lexi Bolesky 6-2, 6-1 from the first position, and Dzakovic easily dispatched of Kim Webb 6-2, 6-2 from No. 3 singles.

The loss was the first in league play for CCU (12-4, 3-1 Big South), and Charleston Southern (12-1, 5-0 Big South) is now the lone unbeaten team in the conference after handing both Coastal Carolina and Winthrop their only losses of the 2010 campaign.

Andrea Schutte and Angie Torres teamed up to defeat Bolesky and Miki Bunea 8-6 from No. 1 doubles. Brooke Pletcher and Susita Das trailed 5-0 in their doubles match against Webb and Maria Camberos. Pletcher and Das made it interesting as they fought all the way back to trail just 7-6, but the Chanticleers held serve and took the third doubles match 8-6.

Pletcher aided the CSU charge from No. 4 singles, as she breezed by Cortes 6-1, 6-2.

Schutte and Torres both lost in nailbiters that could’ve gone either way. Schutte fell to Bunea 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) at the No. 2 position and had two double faults late in the second-set tiebreaker that cost her the chance to send the match to a third set.

Torres was defeated by Camberos 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (10-8) at the fifth position. Torres led the super tiebreaker late before allowing a late rally from Camberos. Das fell 6-2, 6-1 to Hill from No. 6 singles.
