BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Andrea Schutte posted wins in both singles and doubles competition to lead the Charleston Southern women’s tennis team to a season-opening 4-3 victory over Campbell University Friday afternoon.
Schutte won her singles match 6-3, 6-4 over Blanca Saenz from the number three position. She then teamed with Angie Torres in the number one doubles position and defeated Cristina Garcia and Ana Surviladze 8-5.
Olga Makhova and Marija Dzakovic also posted victories in singles competition. Makhova defeated Lisa Sutton 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 from the number one spot, and Dzakovic took down Garcia 6-4, 6-1 from the number two position.
Campbell (1-2) won the bottom half of the singles competitions as Torres, Brooke Pletcher and Andrea Gonzalez were all defeated by Borislava Nikolova, Surviladze and Anais Gomar, respectively.
Dzakovic and Makhova fell 8-0 to Sutton and Nikolova from the number two doubles position, but Pletcher and Susita Das gave Charleston Southern the doubles point by defeating Saenz and Gomar in a 9-8 thriller from the number three slot.
