CSU uses strong finish to take down nationally ranked UNCG 4-3

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis team rallied back to claim a 4-3 victory over No. 66 University of North Carolina-Greensboro Tuesday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.

CollegeTennisOnline.com had UNCG rated as one of the best 75 teams in the nation, and CSU was able to take care of business against the nationally-ranked foe on their home court. The Buccaneers found themselves in a 3-2 hole with two matches still on the courts. Needing both decisions to go in favor of CSU, Marija Dzakovic and Andrea Schutte stepped up to the plate and took care of business.

Dzakovic dispatched of Mikayla Rogers 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 from No. 4 singles, and Schutte clinched the victory for Charleston Southern by beating Stephanie Macfarlane 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 from No. 2 singles.

CSU (6-0, 3-0 Big South Conference) remained perfect on the season with the win over the Southern Conference foe. The Buccaneers snapped the Spartans (5-2, 1-0 SoCon) recent three-match win streak.

Olga Makhova defeated Alex Whitehead 6-4, 6-2 for the third and final singles point for CSU. Brooke Pletcher, Angie Torres and Andrea Gonzalez all fell in their singles matches.

Charleston Southern took the doubles point after winning two of the three matches.

Dzakovic and Makhova teamed up to defeat Jessica Eblen and Annette Rios 8-1. The duo of Susita Das and Pletcher handled Valerie Behr and Rogers 8-3.

Schutte and Torres fell to Whitehead and Macfarlane 8-2.
