CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis team had a powerful day on the courts at CSU Tennis Complex as the Buccaneers disposed of Jacksonville State University 6-1 Monday afternoon.

CSU (7-0, 3-0 Big South Conference) wrapped up the doubles point early, and the home team won five of six singles matches to claim the dominant victory. JSU (6-7, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) dropped its second-straight match after winning six in a row.

Angie Torres and Andrea Schutte teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Viviane Marani and Martina Dessbesell 8-2, and the tandem of Susita Das and Brooke Pletcher took down Rafaela Wenzel and Julianna Renesto 8-1 in No. 3 doubles. Marija Dzakovic and Olga Makhova fell 8-7 (8-6) to Kimberly Ferris and Ralphaela Lima after the doubles point had already been secured for Charleston Southern.

Dzakovic and Pletcher made quick work of their opponents once singles action began. Dzakovic defeated Renesto 6-0, 6-1, and Pletcher took down Ferris 6-3, 6-0.

Torres battled through a tough first set, but was able to beat Wenzel in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

Makhova and Schutte each moved to 7-0 on the season in singles action from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively, but both were tested mightily in their matches.

While Makhova was on one court battling towards a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Marani, Schutte was digging deep to come back after falling behind on several occasions. She lost the first set 3-6, but dominated the second set 6-2. She trailed by three points on two occasions in the third set super tiebreaker, but was able to collect herself and win 10-8.

Andrea Gonzalez won her first set of the season, but fell to Lima 4-6, 6-2, 8-10, also in a third set super tiebreaker.
