No. 65 Bucs roll through UMass 5-2, push undefeated streak to 8

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern women’s tennis team earned its first national ranking in the Mike Baker era, and the Buccaneers lived up to the billing as they defeated University of Massachusetts 5-2 Tuesday afternoon at CSU Tennis Complex.

The Campbell/ITA Division I Women’s Tennis Poll announced today that CSU (8-0, 3-0 Big South Conference) had moved into the weekly rankings at No. 65. UMass (4-5) dropped its fourth-straight match.

The Buccaneers made quick work of the Minutewomen in all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the day. The CSU teams of Andrea Schutte/Angie Torres and Olga Makhova/Marija Dzakovic both won their matches 8-4. They defeated the teams of Candynce Boney/Maude Lecluyse and Julie Comas/Magdalena Ploch. Susita Das and Brooke Pletcher took down Tanisha Hodgson and Jocelyn Providence 8-2.

Makhova, Schutte, Dzakovic and Torres all earned points in their singles matches. Makhova and Schutte moved to 8-0 in singles play on the year after Ploch retired in the first set against Makhova and Schutte handled Comas 6-2, 6-4.

Pletcher dropped a tough match against Boney 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, and Das fell to Providence 6-3, 6-4.
